01/06/2014
Atlanta, GA The Bayard Rustin/Audre Lorde Breakfast planning group announces the 13th annual Bayard Rustin/Audre Lorde Breakfast. The 2014 Bayard Rustin/Audre Lorde Breakfast will be held Monday, January 20th 10AM at All Saints Episcopal Church 634 W Peachtree St NW Atlanta, GA 30308. Doors will open at 9:30AM and breakfast will be served at 10:00AM. This event honors the lives of Bayard Rustin and Audre Lorde and mobilizes community through fellowship and dialogue for progressive social change.
This year’s Breakfast, according to co-founder Craig Washington “will provide a platform to address fundamental issues such as housing and economic justice that must be prioritized by our movement.” The theme Justice, Freedom, and Desire: A Homecoming underscores safe location, stable housing and dignified treatment for LGBTQ people and people of color– resilient communities who are marginalized. “We each as individuals, groups and organizations have an important role in determining our future,” said co-founder Darlene Hudson. “The Breakfast is a space where we re-unite and support each other by just showing up.”
Following the breakfast, participants will join the Martin Luther King Jr March and Rally at the line-up site on the Northeast corner of Peachtree and Ellis streets (same side as Ritz Carlton) at 1:45PM. The MLK Jr March and Rally kicks off at 2PM. Immediately following the march, the rally will be held on Auburn Avenue near the Martin Luther King Jr Center for Non-Violent Social Change. * On Thursday, January 16th 7PM, Atlanta Pride will host a special screening of the documentary film “Audre Lorde – The Berlin Years 1984 to 1992” at the newly renovated Phillip Rush Center at 1530 DeKalb Avenue Suite A Atlanta, GA 30307.
